The Popular Ford Focus Through The Years

If you’re looking for a Ford Focus near Bradley, Terry’s Ford in Peotone has you covered with an extensive selection of quality new and pre-owned models. When the Focus was introduced in 1998 it became one of the first truly legitimate alternatives in the small car segment to compete with the level of engineering, features, and styling that had been coming out from Japanese auto manufacturers for years. Since that time, the Focus has become more refined through its second and third generations, keeping its affordable price tag as it adds competitive power and features. Today, the Ford Focus sedan and hatchback are two of the most popular models on the market for their combination of performance, tight handling, a stylish exterior, and a well-designed interior with plenty of space and a number of high-end features and options.

First Generation (1998-2005)

The first generation of the Ford Focus was introduced by Ford of Europe in 1998 and replaced the old Ford Escort model. In October of 1999 the model was introduced to the American market, and the 2000 Ford Focus quickly became a popular model for drivers throughout the country. This affordable family vehicle came with plenty of style and comfort, and was available in sedan, 5-door wagon, and 3-door hatchback models. The standard powertrain included a 2.0L 107 hp engine and 5-speed manual transmission, and it was also available with a competitive 130 hp, 2.0L Zetec engine.

Second Generation (2005-2010)

The next generation Focus was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in September of 2004. This new model built on the successful design practices of the first generation while growing in size to create a more comfortable and spacious interior. Also available as a wagon, hatchback, and sedan, this Focus achieved a more powerful driving experience with a new 136 hp engine as well as an available 151 hp engine for drivers looking for a more impactful drive from their compact car.

Third Generation (2010-present)

The newest generation of the Ford Focus combines the engineering and design of the European models with those of the North American version. These efforts have come together to produce an exciting new blend that Chicagoland drivers are raving about. Available in sedan, hatchback, and electric versions, the 2013 Ford Focus has something for everyone. The sophisticated 2.0L flex-fuel engine has both performance and efficiency with 160 hp, 146 lb-ft of torque, and an EPA estimated 38 mpg highway, and drivers and passengers will also be pleased by a sophisticated interior with a competitive list of standard and optional high-tech features, including the MyFord Touch infotainment console, active park assist, and a navigation system with SiriusXM.
