The History of the Ford Edge

2013 Ford Edge

At Terry’s Ford, your Bradley-area Ford dealer, drivers are looking for a vehicle that handles well, but still offers power and size like the Ford Edge. This mid-size crossover SUV has a look that’s very reminiscent of the Ford Explorer, though the two do not share a platform. The Edge is still in its first generation, which began in the 2007 model year. You can find both new and used models at Terry’s Ford of Peotone.

The Debut of the Ford Edge

Ford unveiled the new Edge crossover SUV in 2006 at the North American International Auto Show held in Detroit every year in January. Production officially began in October of that year and vehicles found their way to dealerships at the end of the December 2006. It initially was released with three trim levels and a fourth, the Sport, was added in 2008.

Ford Edge HySeries

In 2007, Ford announced they were developing the Ford Edge HySeries, which would be a hybrid version of the crossover SUV. A concept car was released featuring a V6 engine powered by a lithium-ion battery pack and hydrogen fuel. This vehicle was supposed to go into production for the 2010 model year, but never made it past the concept stage. The vehicle did make it to the silver screen with a featured appearance in the James Bond spy thriller Quantum of Solace, the second to feature Daniel Craig as Agent 007.

2011 Ford Edge Refresh

In 2010 at the Chicago Auto Show, Ford released a revised version of the first generation Ford Edge. It featured a new look with different wheels, bumpers, front fascia, and an upgraded material. In the inside, Ford replaced many buttons with new touch controls. The current model is the 2013 Ford Edge available in four different trim levels starting at $27,555.
