At our Peotone, Illinois Ford dealership we tend to think of the Ford C-Max as a brand-new hybrid vehicle, but it’s actually been around for quite some time. The compact multi-purpose vehicle was first built for the European market and a few other areas like New Zealand. Due to its popularity, the vehicle expanded and Ford decided to release it as a new hybrid for the US market. Let’s take a closer look at the history of this global vehicle.
Released for the 2003 model year, the first C-Max made use of the Ford C1 platform, which also housed the Ford Focus. It was a five-seat vehicle and seats could be easily folded for quite a bit of cargo space. The C-Max shared the same engines as the European Ford Focus at the time. Ford gave it a bit of a facelift in order to give it some elements of their Kinetic Design language; the first generation was retired after the 2010 model year.
The second generation C-Max was released for the 2010 model year; again it shared a platform with the Ford Focus. This time around there was a longer-wheel base model added that could seat seven people. Ford initially announced they were going to be releasing the seven-seat version in America, but then unveiled a hybrid version instead.
Released for the 2013 model year, the 2013 Ford C-Max is available at Terry’s Ford as both a hybrid and plug-in hybrid. The Ford C-Max Hybrid gets 47 mpg city and highway while the plug-in Ford C-Max Energi can drive for over 500 miles with its battery pack and gasoline engine. Both vehicles are truly modern marvels.
The Ford C-Max has had a long life in Europe and now American drivers are ready to give the car some love. Terry’s Ford has the new 2013 Ford C-Max in stock now, which you are more than welcome to test drive. We are located at 363 S. Harlem Avenue in Peotone, which is about a 25 minute drive from Bradley.
