2017 Ford Focus vs. 2017 Nissan Sentra

If you’re shopping for a fuel-friendly sedan or a hatchback that’s ready for all of your weekend adventures outside of Bradley, the 2017 Ford Focus is here to take on the challenge. With many available trims and two engine options, you’ll appreciate it’s get up and go style as well as its helpful interior technology. It stands out among the competition, which is why we’ve compared it to the 2017 Nissan Sentra to help you narrow down your options. Pit the two against each other below, then meet us at Terry’s Ford of Peotone for a test drive today!

The new Ford Focus offers drivers two engines to choose from, both friendly to your pocket at the pump. The standard engine is a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine that develops up to 160 hp and 146 lb.-ft. of torque. With the 6-speed dual-clutch transmission, you’ll see up to 39 mpg/highway, and with the 5-speed manual transmission, you’ll see up to 36 mpg/highway. A 1.0L EcoBoost engine is also available that will offer you up to 41 mpg/highway. When you go for the Focus RS, you’ll have a powerful 2.3L 4-cylinder engine that develops an impressive 350 hp that comes standard with all-wheel drive.

Under the hood of the 2017 Nissan Sentra, you’ll see a 1.8L 4-cylinder engine that develops up to 130 hp and gives you up to 37 mpg/highway, or you can upgrade to a 1.6L 4-cylinder engine that develops up to 188 hp and only offers you up to 33 mpg/highway, meaning it isn’t nearly as fuel-efficient as the Focus.

You can go for the sedan version or the cargo-friendly hatchback when you opt for the 2017 Ford Focus. When you pop open the trunk on the sedan, you’ll have a cargo volume of 13.2 cu. ft. If you upgrade to the hatchback, you’ll see 23.3 cu. ft. behind the second row, or up to 43.9 cu ft. when you fold down the second row so you can take plenty of luggage with you on trips.

The Nissan Sentra gives you a trunk space of 15.1 cu. ft. of cargo space, but there is no hatchback option, meaning you’ll have to stick with smaller hauls.

Inside of the new Ford Focus, you’ll enjoy SYNC®3 infotainment technology with Enhanced Voice Recognition Communication, allowing you to seamlessly integrate your smartphone and receive turn-by-turn directions as well as stream your favorite audio on a touchscreen display.

The Sentra only offers an infotainment system with a touchscreen display as an available option for an additional cost on higher trims, meaning you’ll be paying a premium for entertainment on the road.

With all of its standard features, it’s impressive that the 2017 Ford Focus has an MSRP of $16,775. You can choose between nine available trims with an array of features to give you everything you want and need for drives all over. The Nissan Sentra, on the other hand, starts at $16,990 with much less of the style and standard features offered on the Ford Focus.

Advanced Safety Technologies

Whether you’re on your daily commute, taking your family shopping, or on a weekend trip with friends, you always want the peace of mind that safety is on your side. With the Ford Focus, you’ll always have the confidence to drive around your loved ones thanks to its suite of advanced safety technologies. The Ford Focus offers the Safety Canopy System, Belt-Minder, Personal Safety System, AdvanceTrac, a rearview camera and more.

The NHTSA has awarded the 2017 Ford Focus its highest award of 5-stars for overall safety. The 2017 Nissan Sentra, on the other hand, only received a 4-star rating, meaning it didn’t hold up as well as the Focus under the same crash safety tests. Even if it has comparable safety technologies listed in its brochure, the Sentra was not built with the same trusted and tested durability that the Focus has been, meaning it is the weaker choice of the two for you and your loved ones’ protection.
