Performance Capabilities

The 2018 Ford F-150 engines include a powerful 5.0 L V8 power plant capable of delivering 395 hp and 400 lb.-ft. of torque. The Chevy Silverado’s 5.3 L V-8 engine manages just 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. For drivers who want maximum power and towing capability, the Ford can be equipped with a 3.5 L turbocharged V6 capable of generating 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. The Chevy Silverado’s most powerful engine is a 6.2 L V8 that manages just 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque.

The F-150 also delivers on the utility front with a maximum towing capacity of 13,200 pounds. The Chevy Silverado 1500 is limited to a max towing capacity of 12,500 pounds. The Ford also provides drivers with a maximum payload capacity of 3,270 pounds, compared to the Silverado 1500’s maximum payload of 2,250 pounds.

The F-150’s larger 13.8-inch front rotors help this truck manage its power more effectively as well. In recent Motor Trend testing, the Ford F-150 was able to come to a complete stop from 60 mph in only 114 feet. The Chevy Silverado 1500 required 131 feet to perform the same task. Additionally, the Ford F-150 offers drivers access to optional rear inflatable safety belts. In the event of a collision, these belts are able to absorb more of the force of impact, spreading it out over a greater area and limiting head and neck movement to help reduce the likelihood of serious injuries. The Chevy Silverado 1500 doesn’t offer inflatable safety belts.
