When it becomes available, all of us at Terry’s Ford of Peotone expect there to be tremendous demand for the 2016 Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang among drivers in the Bradley area. Although it is not available yet, Ford took a lot of pride in designing this model, which could be thought of as a tribute to Carroll Shelby, one of the greatest racers and car designers who ever lived.
The original Mustang Shelby GT350 was first introduced in 1965. To commemorate the one of the most celebrated racing cars of all time, Ford is putting out a 50th Anniversary Edition Mustang — the 2016 Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang is coming fifty years after Carroll Shelby himself helped to design the iconic Mustang. The new car is designed as a street-legal track car that’s more balanced and exhilarating than the performance cars that preceded it.
This Mustang will offer a 5.2L V8 that features a flat-plane crank, which is a first for a production V8 from Ford. The flat-plane crankshaft is typically only used in European sports cars and racing cars. This design evenly spaces all crank pins at 180-degree intervals, which allows for better performance. It gives the car better engine breathing, improved responsiveness, and potentially amazing revs. Considering the fact that this car has just been unveiled, all we know is that it will offer more than 500 hp and a torque peak above 400 lb-ft. We also know that a six-speed manual gearbox and Torsen limited-slip differential will be standard.
The bodywork ahead of the windshield is completely new for the Shelby GT350 Mustang. To reduce drag and increase downforce, the front has been kept as low and tight around the engine as possible. The interior will also offer Recaro sports seats and a flat-bottom steering wheel to make getting in and out of the low-lying car much easier.
