Changes for 2016

The Ford Explorer has received a number of changes for 2016, ensuring that the lineup maintains its reputation for cutting-edge excellence. The exterior has been restyled, safety features updated, and a new 2.3L EcoBoost engine, as well as an all-new trim level: the envy-inducing Platinum.

Trim Levels and Price

2016 Ford Explorer ExteriorThe 2016 Ford Explorer is available in five separate trims, so you’ll have no trouble finding the right one to meet your needs.

  • Explorer: Starting at $30,700, the standard model offers a rearview camera, LED taillights, and 18-inch wheels.
  • XLT: Starting at $41,300, your Ford Explorer Limited comes equipped with ambient lighting, a handsfree power liftgate, and a 3rd-row PowerFold 50/50 split-folding bench seat for enhanced convenience.
  • Limited: Ford has responded to customer requests by fitting the 2016 F-150 with a 5.0L V8 engine available with a gaseous-fuel prep option. This makes it the only lightweight pick-up capable of running on either compressed natural gas or propane.
  • Sport: Starting at $43,300, the Sport includes Intelligent 4WD as standard and receives its power from a turbocharged 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine.
  • Platinum: This all-new trim starts at $52,600, and provides both a 500-watt, 12-speaker Sony audio system and a dual-panel moonroof.

Powertrains and MPG

2016 Explorer EngineFord is known for offering a strong lineup of engines, and the 2016 Explorer is no exception. Whether you’re after power, efficiency, or an optimum mix of the two, the new model has you covered.

  • 3.5L Ti-VCT V6: Even the standard engine commands an impressive 290 hp and 255 lb-ft of torque. You’ll make 17 mpg in the city and 24 on the highway, or 16 city mpg and 23 highway mpg with all-wheel drive.
  • 2.3L I-4 EcoBoost: The 2016 Explorer’s master of efficiency still offers 280 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque, while returning up to 19 mpg in the city and 28 on the highway, or 18 city mpg and 26 highway mpg for AWD.
  • 3.5L V6 EcoBoost: Available in AWD only, this powerhouse combines turbocharging and direct injection to offer 365 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque, while still providing 16 mpg in the city and 22 on the highway.

Interior

2016 ExplorerThe 2016 Ford Explorer is designed to accommodate the whole family in style and comfort. The 151.6 cubic feet of passenger volume provide more than enough room for all 7 passengers to relax.

Chicago and Manteno drivers will also appreciate the extensive level of cargo space available. Even with all seats occupied there’s still 21 cubic feet to play with – more than enough for weekly shopping trips or hauling standard luggage. If you do need more space, just fold the second and third rows down to access up to 81 cubic feet of storage. A third row PowerFold 50/50 split-folding bench is even available to make that process faster and easier.

Comfort and Convenience

Each model of the 2016 Ford Explorer is offered with plenty of standard features designed to help improve your drive. Included with each model is climate control, cruise control, and even a leather wrapped shift knob for enhanced comfort. You’ll also enjoy Ford MyKey, which can be customized to place a limit on the vehicle’s audio volume and speed – perfect for drivers who share their vehicle with younger family members.

Available features are equally impressive:2016 Explorer Lift-Gate

  • Handsfree Power Liftgate: Is especially useful when both hands are full of shopping items, and it takes the effort out of loading and unloading.
  • Dual-Panel Moonroof: Opens both the first and second rows up to the sun or stars above.
  • Multicontour Front Seats with Active Motion: Uses the latest technology to ensure that you’re perfectly supported during each and every ride.

Safety

  • Lane-Keeping Alert: If you begin to deviate without signaling, the steering wheel will vibrate to alert you.
  • Lane-Keeping Aid: Guides your vehicle back to the center of the lane, should you continue to deviate.
