The 2013 Ford Fusion vs. The 2013 Toyota Prius

Bradley area drivers looking to purchase a safe, reliable, and fun-to-drive sedan should take a trip to Terry’s Ford in Peotone to check out the 2013 Ford Fusion. During a search for the ideal vehicle, our team knows how important it is to consider every option before making a total commitment. While doing research for an environmentally-friendly sedan like the new Ford Fusion, you might come across its competitor, the 2013 Toyota Prius. Unfortunately for the new Prius, the Ford Fusion is more powerful, has superior safety features, and contains a bevy of technological conveniences that the Prius does not. Let’s take a closer look at how they stack up against each other!

Safety Comes First with the Fusion

Safety is paramount in the new Fusion’s design, as it can operate with complete confidence on road conditions that are less than stellar. Ford’s new mid-size sedan offers all-wheel-drive for increased traffic, especially in ice and snow, which we know is plentiful here in the Chicagoland area. However, the 2013 Toyota Prius does not offer all-wheel-drive at all, which means you’re taking a big risk if you want to drive it around here.

The new Fusion also has optional safety features on the SE, Hybrid, and Titanium models that are not offered with the Prius. These include:

  • Optional blind spot warning system
  • Optional vehicle-approaching warning system which uses a wide-angle radar in the rear bumper to detect cars coming from the side
  • Optional driver alertness monitor will provide an audible warning and suggest a break if you seem to be driving with inattentiveness

More Power and Comfort Comes Standard

The 2013 Ford Fusion continues to outshine the Prius under the hood with its standard 2.5 DOHC V4 engine. It’s capable of 170 hp, which is an additional 36 hp over the Prius’ standard 1.8 DOHC V4 engine that produces only 134 hp. The Fusion also gets more torque at 170 lb-ft versus the Prius’ 153 lb-ft, making it a clear winner in the performance category.

Many of the interior technological amenities offered by the Ford Fusion are hard to find within many sedans, but they are definitely not offered by the new Prius. Some of these conveniences found in the Fusion include:

  • Standard speed-sensitive wipers that will adjust themselves according to how fast the 2013 Ford Fusion is travelling
  • Standard remote power window control allows Fusion drivers to raise or lower the car’s windows while outside of the vehicle
  • Optional memory system that allows for three separate customizable seat and mirror position presets
