Historically, large families have gotten a raw deal when it comes to cars. The choices have either been minivans that provided comfort, but were short on style, or massive SUVs with terrible fuel economy. The 2013 Ford Flex rethinks the family vehicle with a distinct retro-futurist look, comfortable ride, seating for seven, and innovative features. The Flex’s styling is bolder than ever this year and comes with many amazing features like an automated-parking system.
Powering the seven-seat car is a 3.5L V6 that gives drivers access to 285 hp and 255 lb-ft of torque, which is a big improvement over last year’s model. It’s possible to get 18 mpg city and 25 mpg on the highway with the new Ford Flex and AWD is an available option. As a versatile vehicle, it’s also capable of towing 4500 pounds.
On the top-tier trim, drivers can improve their car’s power with a turbocharged version of the V6. This will deliver 355 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque, but fuel economy will go down a bit.
The comfort level in the 2013 Flex rivals that of even most minivans. The interior is made from soft materials and an incredibly luxurious design. Up to seven people can fit in the three rows of the vehicle, which has been designed so that even adults can comfortably sit in the back rows. Second row captain’s chairs can slide forward to make more room for the back row; optional second row chairs can recline and are heated.
Besides standard safety features like antilock disc brakes, rear parking sensors, and stability/traction control, there are lot of exciting new features available to make the Flex even safer for your family. Other features include a blind-spot warning system with cross-traffic alerts, inflatable seatbelts for the second row, and a collision warning system that will activate the brakes.
